The Role...

The Senior Merchandising Manager will work closely with the Buying and Merchandising Director to build a product offer that responds and inspires the members/customers, and exceeds expectations. They will plan and trade each category ensuring that profits are always potentialised. Create a financial, category and product framework to maximise sales and profit performance to enhance the brand and grow the bottom line. The Merchandising Manager will manage, build, and nurture the business supply chain and inventory strategy to support and deliver the agreed company objectives. Finally, this role will ensure that there is a coherent communication strategy for both performance and product issues relating to the rest of the business.

Trade/Reporting

* Create a weekly, monthly and seasonal management trading pack outlining sales, profit & margin against the week, MTD, YTD Vs budget and reactions to any current trading considerations.
* Analyse performance at category, sub category and line level using the findings to re-shape current trading plans and build into future range builds/product and creative strategies.
* Review and amend any required stock intake against forecasts and targets.
* Establish a critical path for stock purchasing, reflecting business requirements, potentialising business peak trading periods and protecting critical trading issues such as factory/supplier/mill shut downs, promotional periods and peak trade.
* To plan promotional activity to clear any obsolete stocks and maximise sales.

Planning

* Implent planning tools that are business appropriate to ensure seasonal and in season planning is efficent, WSSI, Line-Cards, Planning Parameters.
* To review performance, analyse historical trends, identify emerging trends to determine future product strategy, working closely with the Buying and NPD Teams.
* Develop, agree and define a seasonal/yearly trading plan delivering the agreed sales and profit.
* Define the seasonal product exit plan in order to deliver the forward strategy.
* Work closely with the Buying and Merchandising Director to plan a robust and competitive pricing architecture, within a commercial range strategy delivering choice and securing target margin requirements.
* Review competitor activity with the Buying , NPD and Design Team to challenge and seek opportunities for the future product strategy.
* Build a range plan at line level that delivers to the top line planned sales and profit, giving clear option guidelines to Design on what is required for the forth coming season
* Review spa and house retail spaces and plan category and product distribution that maximises sales together with the sales and profit return against the space and the product options.
* Agree and place the unit buy at line level, where appropriate.
* Work with Houses to plan and forecast stock requirements.
* Factory & Supplier Management
* Work with QA to create supplier/product review packs, outlining performance, returns and damages, reviewing and improving KPI’s where necessary.
* Review the supplier mix, where appropriate, to ensure it maximises profit potential. Review with the Buying, NPD and Design teams to ensure their relevance to all aspects of the business.
* Ensure that all orders are placed in line with forecasts given.
* Together with the Buying, NPD and Design Teams review the most profitable route to market. Balancing the risk and opportunity through the mix of directly sourced Vs other routes.
* Understand where economies of scale can be exploited. Review the sales, profit and markdown generated by each supplier Vs the mix of business they own or otherwise.

Commercial Awareness

* To undertake house visits when required to ensure that we are delivering to expectations.
* To undertake competitor visits on a regular basis proposing strategic actions as a result.
* To have an excellent understanding of the target customer and emerging trends.
* To understand, prioritise and work to critical dates and deadlines in both the planning and trading process.
* To consistently deliver excellent standards of customer service, to be pro-active in seeking customer feedback from
* all business channels, to include all returns data.

Management, Training and Development

* To adopt a positive and proactive approach to training and development, to participate fully in all team related activities.
* To develop an excellent working understanding and knowledge of all Merchandising systems, working closely with Finance to improve and identify best practises and updates to systems.
* To ensure that business partners eComm, Marketing, Retail and Houses receive product communication and training as necessary; challenge opportunities to improve sales performance.
* Take responsibility for own personal development and to assist in the development and training of the Merchandising team across Soho Home and Cowshed.
* To supervise the Merchandising team in their efficient use of data and systems, creating a unified approach across categories, ensuring best practise is being followed.
* To deputise for the Buying and Merchandising Director as necessary.

Requirements

* Systems knowledge
* Graduate level
* Excellent numerical and analytical ability
* 5 years’ experience minimum in a head office homeware merchandising environment.
