Your day to day

The successful applicant will be a key point of contact all members of IHG Global Finance on technical accounting issues and will deputise for the VP Global Financial Reporting as the ‘Group expert’ on all such matters. This aspect of the role will contribute to maintaining IHG’s corporate reputation by ensuring that the Group adopts appropriate accounting policies and treatments that can withstand challenge from outside regulatory bodies. The job holder will also play a key role in the timely preparation of IHG’s year end and interim Group consolidated financial statements.

As Director of Technical Accounting at IHG you will support the VP Global Financial Reporting on all technical accounting issues impacting the Group globally, including:

* Communicating new accounting developments to the CFO, SVP & Group Financial Controller and Regional CFOs as appropriate;
* Leading implementation projects for new accounting standards;
* Coordinating review and assessment of the impact of all exposure drafts and accounting standards issued by the IASB;
* Advising the business on accounting treatments for complex/unusual transactions including acquisitions and disposals
* Working on bi annual impairment testing;
* Accounting for Loyalty programme with complex revenue recognition;
* Ensure effective hedge accounting and coordinate preparation ofquarterly effectiveness documentation

* Preparing file notes for discussion and sign off with the auditors on a timely basis;
* Advising Investor Relations on accounting questions raised by analysts and other outside bodies
* Assisting with response to comment letters from the FRC and SEC
* Supervise, coach and develop a team of 2 financial reporting managers
* Key supporting role in transitioning technical accounting matters to a new audit firm from January 2021
* Custodian of the Group Accounting Manual with responsibility for updating on an annual basis
* Support the Director, Group Financial Reporting in preparing the year end and interim Group consolidations.
* Coordinate the accounting and reporting of major transactions and (tax) reorganizations with
* relevant finance and tax teams to ensure that the desired accounting is achieved, both at the consolidated and local reporting levels
* Advise and assist the regional financial reporting teams in the production of their audited local financial statements, particularly in relation to technical accounting issues
* Provide US GAAP updates and advice to support the preparation and audit of the Group’s US consolidated accounts.
* Design of and adherence to Sarbanes Oxley processes and controls in relation to technical accounting matters
* Work on new initiatives to improve processes and efficiencies across the wider Financial
* Reporting team (e.g. supporting implementation of new consolidation systems).

What we need from you

Superior technical knowledge of IFRS and strong working knowledge of UK GAAP and US GAAP

Passion for technical accounting issues and desire to keep up to date with latest developments

Strong verbal and written communication skills for the purpose of presenting complex technical matters in a concise and clear manner

Ability to develop and maintain working partnerships in a global organization and with those of more seniority;

Experience of managing projects across a global organization;

Ability to interpret and advise on technical accounting issues with a commercial mindset

Experience in leading and developing people

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Ability to meet reporting deadlines

Experience in Oracle and Microsoft Office products

Advocate of strong internal control environment

Qualifications

ACA or equivalent accounting qualification essential

Minimum 5+ years of post qualification experience in a large PLC multi

currency financial reporting environment, either within the accountancy profession or in industry;

Experience in a technical role with exposure to complex accounting treatments;

Experience of producing/auditing consolidated financial statements under IFRS essential;

PeopleSoft,

Essbase and HFM experience desirable.
